*DNF = Did not finish. In other words, drop a book that does not bring you joy, rather than finishing it!

Achievements with can be coupled with other books, because the achievements are principally not about reading any one specific book. Achievements with cannot have the same book as another achievement, unless you have read that book twice in 2025.

Rules

 1. Unless otherwise stated, an achievement can only be collected for something you have done in 2025. Books started before 2025 are allowed.

2. One book cannot grant multiple achievements. E.g. if you read a book about neuroscience and mental health, you cannot use the book to collect both achievement 1 and 3, but must choose one (see above for caveats).

3. To complete an achievement, you must write about it in the forum and report on your experience! What was completing the goal like? Reflect on the book in context of the achievement, and write a small paragraph. E.g. "I read Shakespeare's Hamlet for 20 Old is Gold" will not be accepted.

 4. If a challenge includes reading a book, you must finish it to collect the achievement (unless otherwise stated).

5. Breaking the rules can lead to disqualification. Please be considerate and do not use repeat entries.

While not a requirement, you can use this format to claim your achievements if you like!

Completed: [Book by Author or task]
Time: [start-finish]
Achievement: [# Name]

Thoughts on the book: [General impression of the book. You can include ratings etc.]
Thoughts on the achievement: [How did the challenge of the achievement influence your thoughts on the book? Or how did the book influence your thoughts on the achievement?]

EXAMPLE:

Completed: The Sunlit Man by Brandon Sanderson
Time: Dec 8-Dec 10
Achievement: 47 Out of this World

Thoughts on the book: 4/5. I don't think I read this book in the best headspace so I would like to return to it sometime when I can read it with more regard for the book itself. There's a lot of loss, and it was difficult to see a character that deserves so much better in that position. Still, I really enjoyed the character progression throughout this book, and the poetic ending. There was a lot of emotional resonance in it.
Thoughts on the achievement: Not only does this book take place way away from anything like Earth, but the main character is also far away from his home planet, so it only made sense to let Nomad carry this achievement for me. Not only are we away from home, but we long for a home we cannot get back, that we cannot return to. It is painful and difficult to go through the things life throws at us. Not only is it about mourning the loss of what we cannot get back, but also learning to live with it, and accepting the light that shines upon us after. It can be difficult to accept it when we've been hurt, even if it's fleeting. But good is good. And we do well to love ourselves enough to accept it when its there.

F.A.Q.

Q: I assigned a book to an achievement but I'd rather transfer it to a different one! Can I do that?
A: No. When you gain an achievement you've unlocked it, and you can't lock it again. The book is assigned to that achievement and can't be used for other achievements unless you read the book again!

Q: Do the books all have to be fiction (except the non-fiction achievement)?
A: No! Most achievements are formulated with the assumption that most people will read fiction, but if you can find a non-fiction book that aligns with an achievement, you can absolutely read that. Feel free to ask for specific books and achievements if you're still unsure!

Q: Do I have to join the challenge on TheStorygraph?
A: No! If you want to get the achievement for finishing all challenge prompts or for doing two books that go along a monthly theme, you can still do it without officially joining the challenge. Just report in the forum what you did and your thoughts on it as with any achievement!

Q: What would be considered a controversial book?
A: To not make this achievement too exclusionary, this is up to your personal interpretation. It can relate to the narrative, the author, the publishing history or maybe a controversy surrounding the book in other ways. As examples, Lolita (Nabokov) is about a controversial topic and Harry Potter (Rowling) has an (infamously) controversial author. Yellowface (Kuang) is also about a controversial topic. You can really go as "hard" or "soft" on your interpretation of what "controversial" means to you and how it relates to the book - all that matters is that you find a book you are comfortable with reading, and are able to report on your experience reading it in a way that relates it to that controversy!

Q: Can I join both the Discord bingo and the achievement event?
A: Yes! They are separate events.
