Happy Easter!

It’s no surprise to anyone that Easter is upon us!

Stores overflow with chocolate eggs in all shapes and sizes, images of fluffy chickens, lambs and bunnies everywhere! Spring is right around the corner! Isn’t it wonderful to see the colors of nature everywhere? Daffodils, tulips and wild anemones bloom as nature awakes and brings to life all that has been hibernating through the long winter.

Easter is at its roots a Christian holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. Easter is the end of the "Passion of Christ" which begins as Lent - a 40-day period of praying, fasting and sacrifice – comes to its close, on Palm Sunday at the beginning of Holy Week. It includes Good Friday and Easter Sunday (which are this weekend!).

Many traditions associated with Easter date back to the pagan times, which include things that we all know, such as the Easter bunny, and Easter eggs, both of which could be associated with renewal.

For many non-Christian people, Easter can simply mean time to spend together with family or friends as in many countries the days around Easter are official days off. It can be a time to represent the start of the spring season, where we are reenergized by more sunlight, the wonders of nature in beautiful flowers that grow everywhere. This time of year is a time of wonders and miracles and we should be grateful and be mindful about how we treat the nature we all love.

Happy Easter everyone - whatever that means to YOU!

With love,
