Eid el-Adha

It’s Eid morning, the house smells like citrus and lavender from all the cleaning preparations. Everyone has their favorite outfit ready. My sister's room smells like perfume and burnt hair. But that’s ok because today is the day! We will visit the mosque, have delicious food, spend quality time with family and we get our Eidi ($$$). I get awoken on this beautiful day by the voice of my mother calling relatives back home. My mom thinks she has to talk extra loud because the distance is further. She screams on top of her lungs as she calls every relative to tell the same story - in the same loud voice. I used to get annoyed, but now I see the beauty of it. My mom wanted to make sure that she wished every single person she knows and loves a happy Eid. And I’m taking that tradition to goSupermodel. Happy Eid my fellow Muslims!

Today marks the start of Eid el-Adha. Today we honour the sacrifices prophet Abraham was willing to make and the survival of Ishmail. It’s an important day for muslims, filled with joy and love. Eid el-Adha also marks the completion of the yearly pilgrimage. We call it Hajj. Every Muslim is expected to complete this pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetime. But only if they can afford to do it! My dad has done it and it’s one of the most beautiful things. Before he went, he called everyone he knew and apologised if he ever did them wrong. He also made sure that we were well taken care of during his departure. He came back a new person. It’s truly a life changing experience. One thing that makes me emotional to this day, is how my dad did the pilgrimage twice - one for him and one for my sister who unfortunately is not here with us anymore.

Unite

What I love most about this day is that it truly shows how much we care for one another. Muslims all around the world make sure that everyone has food on their plate and something to celebrate. It unites us all and fills the world with peace. Another tradition we do is Qurbani. Which basically means that we donate to the less fortunate so they can have something to eat.

Eid el-Adha on goSupermodel

The goSupermodel team wants to bring those celebrations onto the website. We have some very fun and exciting things planned in the upcoming days with the goHunt that starts today at 12:00 CET, a special surprise on the 30th, different competitions and chats, so make sure to log back in and check out all of the festivities!

The items given out during Eid are traditional/cultural and Islamic clothes. We urge the community to please respect the purity behind these items. Please do not wear these items with a risqué look or in a manner that blatantly mocks Islam. Thank you for your compliance and understanding.
Oh, and before we go, we've got a surprise for you hidden in this post.
