Introducing our new moderators

Hi everyone!

We have some exciting news to share regarding our new additions to the moderator team! This post also includes some transparency notes as well as addressing our plans for future recruitment of new moderators.

We are excited to announce that these users have been added to our moderator group:

  • Sleeper

  • METAL

  • Ro

  • jadamouay

  • Reccaceae

  • sabrinxs

  • MayB

  • MollyMayKitty

These users have shown great behavior on goSupermodel, and we are very excited to add them to our team! Please wish them a warm welcome.

Why we decided to not do an open search this time:

Since our original team was established, we have lost seven members. We, the Admin team, could see that the team needed some more helping hands as soon as possible. So, we decided to replace those seven spots immediately. Sadly, doing an open application process would take more time than what was tolerable. We therefore did something that was also done in the old goSupermodel days: We made picks from the community.

How we made our picks

In addition to having applications from the previous application process, we also asked our current moderators if they had any recommendations. This is because they know what the moderator role entails better than anyone, and we trust that they would come with good recommendations. Additionally, the Admin team has noted down users who we have seen make a positive contribution to the goSupermodel community, eg. by deescalating heated discussions or helping other users.

We would like to emphasize that whilst the moderators were able to come with recommendations, the Admin team made the final decision by going through our candidate pool (consisting of both recommendations as well as others).

Why we have not posted about this process previously

This is a decision based on multiple factors. For starters, a big part of the moderator role is to be able to keep secrets. We therefore wanted the ability to see whether our candidates could keep this process a secret, which would be made more difficult if it was known that there was an open search. Furthermore, we wanted to give our candidates privacy from speculation. And lastly, we wanted to get an authentic view of how our candidates behave on the website, where they act like themselves and not as someone hoping to be rewarded for good behavior.

We also felt like letting you know would keep you on edge and give you a lot of hope, and we did not want to disappoint anyone by doing that.

Addressing your possible concerns

We know that a lot of users are passionate about the website and would love to become moderators. We are also aware that despite our efforts to see everyone, we have undoubtedly missed great candidates in our search. We understand that this can feel unfair, and that we may have hurt your feelings or made you mad. We want to acknowledge that and let you know that your feelings are valid.

However, we hope that it helps to know that we are trying to open up an application process in the near future, which means that everyone who wants to, will be able to be seen! As stated, this recruitment process was to fill the gaps left in the original team. We have yet to expand our team, which we are hoping to do in the near future.

Also, if you do have any upset feelings, we ask that you do not direct them at the (new and old) moderators, as this decision was not made by them.

An upcoming moderator search

We cannot promise a date for when this is happening. As you may know, plans get pushed and priorities get reorganized. We do not want to give you a date and then have to announce that we have to move it. Our aim is to open up a search in the months ahead, but again, this is not a promise, and we can not deliver any continuous updates on this.

Love,

The Admin team
