bro why are houseplants such a stressful fucking hobby BROOOO

i repotted my heartleaf philodendron and marble queen pothos today for somewhat of a funsies because i wanted to try a different potting mix (coco coir, perlite, gravel (+ bark for the pothos), the most commonly seen soilless mix, so i'm not even being fancy and making things harder for myself that way) and i ended up not putting a layer of drainage at the bottom of their pots.

so i spiraled into anxiety about them eventually rotting lmaooo.

but the thing is.
1. THE POTS HAVE DRAINAGE HOLES AT THE BOTTOM because i pot all my plants in just your average plastic pots and then just use pretty decorative pots.
and also
2. the rest of my plants have been in only regular potting soil for a year. THAT'S GOTTEN HARD, COMPACTED, SIMULTANEOUSLY DRY IN THE MIDDLE BUT ALSO WET-FOR-TOO-LONG-STAYING. and still survived this long with literally no bigger problems yet. (with drainage mind you, but the point somewhat stands)

so how i'm logicing this to myself is: if my plants that have been in shitshows of soil WITH drainage have survived this long, my plants that are in better potting mix WITHOUT drainage will survive just as well even if i just eyeballed the percentages. i LITERALLY also water all my plants out of their decorative pots and let them drip so there literally isn't even water left at the bottom of the decorative pot for the plant to stay in and to soak through the drainage holes.

so ya.
i love having hobbies with GAD lmao.
i'm ok. plants also, in the end, aren't actually THAAAAAT difficult or temperamental that they couldn't survive AT ALL lol.
