Here you will find some specific excel tips!

Calculating the sum between two dates
I find it the easiest to use SUMIF for this problem.
For example, to calculate the amount of flights between 1/5/2015 and 1/12/2015 I would use =SUMIF(range;">="criteria 1;sum range)-SUMIF(range;">"criteria 2;sum range) where the range is the range where you have your dates, criteria 1 would be the cell in which the first date is (1/5/2015), sum range is the data you wish to sum and criteria 2 would be the second date (1/12/2015)

I'm a visual thinker, and the way I visualize this is by seeing a time line and basically taking away the excess chunk and leaving behind the data between the two dates. So you are using the >= 1/5/2015 as your timeline, where the date 1/5/2015 is included. Then you take away everything after 1/12/2015, not including 1/12/2015 itself

COMBINING text functions with the if function.
I've ran into a situation where I had to assign the right greeting based on data given. In this situation I used =TRIM(IF(B22="m";"Mr.";IF(B22="f";"Ms.";""))&UPPER(B25)&" "&LOWER(B24)&" "&PROPER(B23))

This might seem a bit intimidating, but I started this with one IF function and then packed onto it. The first IF covers if the data shows "m", then I want the text "Mr.", if it does not contain that then I want to go into another IF function where the criteria is the letter "f", then I want "Ms." to show. If the letter "m" nor the letter "f" is present, then I want a blank cell, so " ". Think of the nested IF function as a decision tree, where the start is the very first criteria you have entered. After the right greeting was chosen, I wanted to show the initials in all caps, therefore using the function UPPER. then, the middle piece of the last name i wanted to be in lower case, so I used LOWER. The surname I wanted only the first letter to be in uppercase, so the function used was PROPER.

As you will notice, in the name part of the syntax the ampersand and " " is used. This was used to "glue" in the space, otherwise all the letters would be connected. To make sure it looks proper and does not contain excess space, the function TRIM was used over the entire syntax.
