Introduction

Welcome Finalists to the second and last round of the JD competition. Read thoroughly so you don't miss any important information.

The deadline for this first round is 5. April 2024 23:59 CEST. At that point, you need to have submitted your images.

For this competition, we will be searching for 6-7 new designers. This round there will only be 1 theme and we will only want you to create 1 look.

Your dream outfit

We want you to go wild! If you could create literally anything for gSm what would that be? We want your personality to really shine through. Don't be afraid to test your own limits showing us how great you are. Adding difficult textures might be what sets you apart from your fellow contestants so make sure to bring your A-game and don't play it safely (You are in the finale after all).

Item requirements

10 items max per outfit excluding make-up

All items you make must be inclusive.

Unlike the last round where you only had to include only 4 skin tone variants in this round, you will be following the same guidelines as the Junior Designers. That means that any item that contains skin or goes onto the skin needs to be suited for all standard skin tones. The standard skin tones are the ones in the shop and do not include for example the blue, striped, sparkly and so on. 

In your outfit, you have to provide at least 2 hairstyles, one of them has to be a hair that properly shows the properties of tightly coiled hair.

Design a hair with a coily texture ranging from 4a to 4c. You may do a hairstyle, like box braids or cornrows or any other hairstyle achieved with 4a-4c hair.

Here is a list of hairstyles that you can use as a starting point: 

• Crochet Braids

• Afro

• Cornrow

• Bantu knots

• Box braids

• Twists

• Twist outs

• Finger coils

• Locs

These are a mere example. Of course, you can choose different hairstyles as long as it’s obvious that the hair texture is between 4a and 4c. You can easily google for example "4c hair texture" and see examples of what we mean in case you are unfamiliar with the hair texture scale. It is also okay to add accessories into the hairstyles like maybe rings or beads since that is common with some styles.

The other hair can be whatever style/texture you choose. We expect that both hairs will be made with the intention of being paired with your dream outfit which means that they should both fit the vibe you are going for.

Copyright and Inspiration

Taking inspiration from photos is alright and looking at references is an important step in the drawing process to know how folds flow and the texture reacts to light etc. You can look at images and take inspiration from how the items look, but it's important to put your own spin on the items you are inspired by as 1:1 copies do not show us your creativity, but rather someone else's. 

Copying a part from a photo, scaling, and manipulating it to fit the model would be considered cheating and will get you disqualified. Looking at a clothing piece from a photo and redrawing it yourself is not considered cheating but we would not be able to judge your creativity which is important to us. Keep this in mind as you design. 

Brand names and copyrighted characters will not be allowed. You can not include things such as band names and company names in your design. You also cannot copy the look of a specific character such as cartoon/anime characters. Generally, we can make items inspired by them but not 1:1 copies, but in this competition, we want you to avoid it altogether because we need to know what you can come up with.

Below we have provided templates and example images, look at them thoroughly. 

If all your items don't fit on the template you can make it bigger by extending the right side of the template picture, but please keep the model in the same place.
